30th Annual Spring Stroll Tour of Gardens and Homes

Enchanting gardens and homes await your discovery at Middle Georgia’s premier house and garden event! Now in its 30th year, Spring Stroll Tour of Gardens and Homes features some of Macon’s most spectacular private gardens and residences.

THURSDAY, MAY 1, 6-8 p.m.
Spring Stroll Garden Party
Kick off the weekend at the Spring Stroll Garden Party on Thursday evening. Mix and mingle with fellow gardening enthusiasts and flower aficionados over delightful drinks and hor d’oeuvres at Hay House, Macon’s beloved “Palace of the South.”

FRIDAY, MAY 2, 7-9 p.m.
Live on the Lawn featuring Macon Pops
Enjoy an unforgettable evening with a special musical performance by Macon Pops orchestra on the front lawn of Hay House. Bring your own chair or blanket, along with your favorite food and drinks, and indulge in a night of music and relaxation under the stars.

Tables of 8 are Available
For those who prefer a more social experience, tables of 8 are available. We’ll provide the table, chairs, and linens—you bring the food and beverages. Get creative and decorate your table for a chance to win prizes for the best display.

Spring Stroll Tour of Gardens and Homes
Explore the exquisite gardens and homes of Macon’s Idle Hour neighborhood. Originally established in 1954 as Country Club Estates, this area has grown into one of Macon’s most sought-after residential spots. The homes here range from mid-century modern to contemporary and traditional styles, with some built or remodeled within the last five years. Idle Hour boasts both formal and informal gardens, and The Georgia Trust invites you to explore many beautiful landscapes and residences not previously open to the public.

All purchased tour tickets will be placed on will call and made available for pickup at the rear of Hay House (934 Georgia Avenue, Macon, GA 31201) on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 4, 11 to 4 p.m.

Hay House Summer Camp

Join us for an engaging one-week day camp at the Johnston-Felton-Hay House, designed for children ages 9-12 who have a curiosity about history and preservation! Campers will explore Macon’s architectural heritage, learning about different styles and the significance of preserving historical structures.

Highlights of the camp include:

  • A van tour with Visit Macon, tracing the area’s history from its earliest settlements at the site of what is now Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park.
  • Hands-on learning about architectural and painting finishes.
  • A creative experience at Historic Macon’s Second Street workshop, where campers will discover and design their own projects.

By the end of the week, participants will have a deeper appreciation for how the past shapes our present and why it’s essential to preserve it for future generations.

Rates and Payment: Fee is $185. The last date for a refund is May 31, 2025, minus $25 processing fee.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Second and Fourth Saturdays of the Month

This specialty tour provides guests with a behind-the-scenes look at areas of Hay House that are not accessible on the regular tour. Guests will have the opportunity to see the wine cellar, secret room, balcony, and attic. The spectacular 360-degree view of Macon from the widow’s walk is a must-see! This tour lasts approximately 2 hours.

There are many stairs in the house. Though the building is wheelchair accessible and has a small elevator, there are still many stairs involved on this tour. The house’s elevator only goes to the 3rd level. Behind-the-Scenes tours cover all seven levels, so dress comfortably!

Reservations with advanced payment are required. Registration is limited to 15 people maximum.

Experience Hay House after dark! Go behind the scenes at what Architectural Digest calls one of the “13 Most Beautiful Haunted Destinations Around the World.” Hear spine-tingling tales of unexplained noises, lights with a mind of their own, and real-life ghost sightings.

Come a little early to enjoy a “spirit” (a complimentary glass of beer, wine or soda) and browse around the ground level of the house before the tour.

Drinks will be offered from 5:30-6:00 p.m. The tour will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and typically lasts an hour and a half.

Hay House presents Haunts & History on the Hill, a walking ghost tour of Macon’s Intown neighborhood. Hear spine tingling tales of supernatural activity in one of the city’s most haunted areas. Learn the history of Macon’s historic structures and the spirits that inhabit them. This tour will highlight stories of ghosts and legends that surround many of the historic buildings in Macon’s College Hill Corridor.

Each tour lasts approximately 1 1/2 hours. Reservations required. Comfortable shoes and clothing are encouraged.

Parking is available in the small parking lot directly behind Hay House. The driveway entrance is on the corner of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street. Parking is also available on the street in front of Hay House.
