Lida Hill Residence

This home was constructed in 1910 for Walter T. Johnson and Family by architect Neel Reid, who was heavily influenced by the English Arts and Crafts Movement. The property is unique as it was designed specifically for a small triangular site. It has functioned as both a single and multi family residence, as well as a real estate office until 2020 when Lida Hill purchased the property. Throughout its lifetime, many inappropriate updates had been made. With great care and attention to Reid’s vision, Ms. Hill undertook a comprehensive restoration: replacing over 50 custom windows using Reid’s original plans, restoring half-timbering, repointing brickwork, and repairing structural damage. Inside, finishes were updated with period-appropriate lighting and refinished floors. Thanks to her dedication, this architectural gem once again stands proudly as a defining feature of historic downtown Macon and a lasting example of thoughtful stewardship.
