Visit the historic schoolhouse
that once served the community of Raymond as a
grammar school. When the county schools were
consolidated, the building became the Raymond
Community Center from the 1950’s to the mid 1980’s.
Vacant since then, the school has been nominated for
The Georgia Trust’s 2009 Places in Peril.

Saturday’s Ramble
through intown Newnan will include the 1890
Parrott/Camp/Soucy/Trammell House, the 1840 Major
Long House, the 1903 Wynn House, and the Male
Academy Museum. North of Newnan is the Yancey
Compound, which includes a c. 1860’s house and two
log cabins; and Oak Grove Plantation, the
beautifully restored c. 1840’s Arnold home and
gardens that have been featured in national
magazines.

Tour the
beautifully restored Dunaway Gardens, which was once
the theatrical training ground for performers,
producers and directors during the 1930’s and
1940’s. Other sites include CORRAL, a therapeutic
riding program located in the Wayne P. Sewell c.
1930 barn and the ancestral home of Andrew Sewell
(Sewell/Cohen) built c. 1880.
