Historic Senoia Ramble

See “preservation in progress” as you tour the beautiful town of Senoia, which is currently being returned to its pre-1900s grandeur, led by Historic Development Ventures, a company of Riverwood Studios. Other Ramble sites will include:

• Travis-Price home, 348 Seavy Street
• Hollberg Hotel, now known as The Veranda, 252 Seavy Street
• Brandenberg-Merrick home, 163 Seavy Street
• Presbyterian Church-Smoak House, 386 Pylant Street
• The Culpepper House, 35 Broad Street
• Maguire's Family and Friends, an Irish pub

6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Tour the Historic Mary Ray School

Visit the historic schoolhouse that once served the community of Raymond as a grammar school. When the county schools were consolidated, the building became the Raymond Community Center from the 1950’s to the mid 1980’s. Vacant since then, the school has been nominated for The Georgia Trust’s 2009 Places in Peril.

Cocktails and Dinner at The Magnolias Plantation

All Ramblers will enjoy cocktails and dinner at The Magnolias Plantation, home of George Johnson and Morris Steward.

Saturday, October 4

Check-in and Newnan-Coweta Orientation 

Wadsworth Auditorium
25 Jefferson Street, Newnan
Enjoy breakfast provided by Main Street Newnan and join other Ramblers for the Newnan-Coweta Orientation at the award-winning Wadsworth Auditorium, built during the 1930’s in the Art Deco style.

10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Newnan-Coweta County Ramble

Saturday’s Ramble through intown Newnan will include the 1890 Parrott/Camp/Soucy/Trammell House, the 1840 Major Long House, the 1903 Wynn House, and the Male Academy Museum. North of Newnan is the Yancey Compound, which includes a c. 1860’s house and two log cabins; and Oak Grove Plantation, the beautifully restored c. 1840’s Arnold home and gardens that have been featured in national magazines.

Other highlights include:

Lunch at The History Center

60 East Broad Street

Enjoy lunch at the former Atlanta and West Point Railroad Depot. The c. 1892 building now holds exhibits that interpret the early history of Coweta County through the middle of the 20th century.

 

6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Cocktails and Dinner at Powers Plantation Site and Moss Oak

121 and 80 Charlie B. Johnson Road

Tour the c. 1790 plantation house and grounds listed on the National Register of Historic Places; enjoy carriage rides around the scenic grounds, which include a folk art gallery and historic rural area cemetery.
 

Sunday, October 5

9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Dunaway Gardens and Roscoe Ramble 

Tour the beautifully restored Dunaway Gardens, which was once the theatrical training ground for performers, producers and directors during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Other sites include CORRAL, a therapeutic riding program located in the Wayne P. Sewell c. 1930 barn and the ancestral home of Andrew Sewell (Sewell/Cohen) built c. 1880.

• Scenic Drive through Roscoe

11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Brunch at Sewell's Pecan Orchard

21 Oliver Potts Road

End your journey through Newnan-Coweta with a delicious brunch at Sewell's Pecan Orchard. Travel back home along the scenic byway.
